Principal Director of Audit (Central)
A separate office of the Sr.Deputy Accountant General (Local Bodies Audit & Accounts) was established in September 2005 under the administrative control of the Principal Accountant General (Civil Audit). Subsequently, in July 2011, the office was re-designated as the Office of the Accountant General (Local Bodies Audit & Accounts).
The Office of the AG (Local Bodies Audit & Accounts) conducts audit of local bodies - viz., Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs) comprising of Zilla Praja Parishads (ZPPs), Mandal Praja Parishads (MPPs), and Gram Panchayats (GPs) as well as Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), comprising of Municipal Corporations and Municipalities - under Section 14(1) of the CAG's (DPC) Act, 1971, which relates to the audit of bodies and authorities which are substantially financed by Government. Further, in line with entrustment by the Government of Andhra Pradesh based on the recommendations of the Eleventh Finance Commission, this office is also responsible for providing Technical Guidance and Supervision (TGS) over the audits of PRIs and ULBs conducted by the State Audit Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh. This office prepares Local Bodies Audit Reports, which are tabled in State Legislature under Article 151(2) of the Constitution.
